Briar‘s Breakthrough Coaching / Counseling & Therapies:

My approach keeps you and your vision center stage at all times during our work together. You won’t be asked to follow anyone else’s script of success.  We’ll work together to become clear on your vision for your life including work.  We’ll discover your success and sabotage strategies and find ways to focus your energies on your successful strategies. Then we’ll create goals to maximize your progress through effective and targeted action.

If you don’t know your vision for your future, how can you evaluate the best path to get there?  I’m not just talking about work.  If you aren’t clear on what your vision is of parenting or relationships, how can you be the best you can be in those areas?

You may only allow yourself a certain level of success before your sabotage kicks in.  We’ll discover those patterns in order to get past those historic limitations.

When we discover your vision and definition of success in the primary areas of your life – it becomes so much easier to develop meaningful yet achievable goals that bring you closer to your ideal life.

Note from Briar: I grew up in Geneva, Switzerland and was lucky enough to have both French and English as my mother tongues.  My earliest schooling was in French and I have lived 20 years in Geneva.  My parents were both English mother tongue speakers and fluent in French, which gave me a healthy grounding in both languages.

I am comfortable providing all of my services in either English or French.

Briar‘s Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor of arts (Economics), Masters in Social Work, Certified Mediator, Certified Life Coach (level IV), Systemic Family Constellations Practitioner, NLP Master Practitioner, Cert IV in Small Business Management…  Member of the Australian Association of Social Work (AASW).

I’ve been working with people to get more out of life for the last 25 years.  Since my teens I have been attracted to conflict resolution.

In my 20′s I was successful in a mediation for my family which resulted in us being able to save our house from a very powerful neighbor who was putting our house at risk.

My first degree was in Economics at the University of Colorado, in Boulder, where I learned many skills for practical evaluation of money and resources which has come in very handy for my Life and Business Coaching.  I then returned to my calling of working one on one counseling.

I have always been fascinated by the concept of finding creative outcomes for conflict situations where all parties can have their needs met.  I became a certified mediator in Adelaide, South Australia and then volunteered as a mediator for years, in community mediation.  I chose the most complex mediation to work on and enjoyed the challenge.  This was while I was completing my Masters in Social Work.  The mediation service had a 97% satisfaction rate with the people who had used the service.  Can you imagine having almost all customers on both sides of a dispute satisfied?

The Life Coaching training really pulled all of my previous training and experience together. I studied Life Coaching with Real Education, completing 6 months of intensive experiential workshops and study. I then worked at Real Education and was a mentor coach, counselor and creative workshop material developer / researcher and facilitator of some of their programs. This gave me a lot of experience in working with individuals in counseling and coaching, as well as couples in times of challenges.

With the counseling and Life Coaching, I developed my own personal blend of therapy.  You will find it very effective and rewarding. We work in a dynamic and interactive way as we explore and break through previous limiting beliefs and behaviors patterns.  My method of coaching/ counseling will challenge you to look at the patterns of thought and behaviors that are not giving you the life or relationships that you choose.

I’ve completed two years of training in Systemic Family Constellations work (FC).  It is incredible that with FC many long term issues be they physical, emotional and especially relational can often be resolved in one or a couple of sessions!  I marvel at the power of the work to help you make decisions quickly and yet feel good in the long run because they are based on what is fundamental about you and your situation.

I absolutely love what I do and the outcomes that my clients achieve!

I spent 2007 in Geneva coaching and counseling in French and English. I am comfortable working in either language.

Briar‘s personal passions:

My mother tongues are English and French. I grew up in Geneva with both of my parents working for UN organizations and speaking both languages at home.

I love to travel and learn from other cultures. I have been blessed with a family that has traveled for work and for pleasure.  I have traveled extensively around the world for most of my life.

When I graduated from University, I followed in my parents’ footsteps and worked for the United Nations in Geneva.

I then returned to the United States of America to study a Master in Applied Economics and then Sustainable Agriculture.

Shortly after, in 1986, I joined The Great Peace March for Global Nuclear Disarmament and walked across the United States, with hundreds of other marchers.  It was a life changing experience which took eight and a half months.

I am committed to world peace, social justice and harmony, which is part of the reason that I became a Baha’i and am involved in activities to eliminate prejudice and promote understanding.

Besides my work with clients I enjoy exploring other personal growth and healing modalities which is why I can often be found doing workshops.

Many of the inspirations for my way of working come from a combination of all my passions and spending time in nature, prayer and mediation.

I also studied Ki-Aikido for a few years and since maintained an interest in both mental and physical discipline.
